Don’t make these 5 decluttering mistakes

Decluttering is hard, and you have to do it often. Many times, people are so overwhelmed about the process of decluttering. You’re likely to be less effective so don’t make the same mistakes.

1️⃣ Don’t rush the process.

🌟 That’s right. You don’t want to have regrets later so take your time and do it right. When you make a decision to pass something along, stand by it. You can do one small space a day or work in ten minute blocks.

2️⃣ Don’t take on too much at once.

🌟 Yep, that’s no fun. I suggest that you start in small spaces and do a little bit at a time. When you tackle small spaces, you’ll feel great and build your confidence with decluttering. Start with a drawer or cabinet.

3️⃣ Don’t hold onto items “just in case”.

🌟 No!!! The only way to declutter is to get things out of the space. Let’s hold onto what we really want and need. No one has space for a ton of things that they’re not using. Those “just in case” items pile up and add clutter to your physical space and mental space too.

4️⃣ Don’t jump into organizing.

🌟 Declutter then organize! Many people try to rush the process and jump right into organizing. If you don’t pair down, you’re just moving the stuff around.

5️⃣ Don’t try to sell everything.

This is a big one. It’s often too much of a task to sell a ton of items or pass them on to specific people. When making these decisions, think about how many “to do’s” you’re adding to your list. And be honest with yourself…. will it really happen!?!
